Some dog breeds like pugs (brachycephalic breeds) are predisposed to having respiratory problems which worsen in the heat. In addition to the frequent problems of malformed nasal openings, they sometimes have a more serious condition called tracheal collapse wherein the windpipe collapses during respiration and can have serious consequences. To accurately diagnose the condition a dynamic imaging of the airways is needed which is made possible at MaxVets by our c-arm image intensifier/flouroscopy machine and flexible endoscopy. Oliver was brought to us with severe breathing difficulty and was diagnosed with tracheal collapse. We were able to place a tracheal stent to prevent the collapse under c-arm guidance. On his follow up visit, it was extremely rewarding to see that Oliver looked much more comfortable without any breathing distress.
